Connecting TRX-Manager to the Yaesu FT-891

Many modern transceivers are compact and use menus to change settings. This saves a lot of space but can make it difficult to change settings quickly. With a computer and CAT Control software this is easily overcome.

There are a lot of different programs available on the web. The Yaesu FT-891 has advanced CAT Control available and I wanted to take advantage of this. TRX-Manager is capable of this so I downloaded the demo. After trying the software out, I decided to purchase it.

The Monitoring and Levels screens will differ depending on what transceiver you have connected.

Check the Com Port number assigned by your computer to the radio. Also check the Baud rate in your Yaesu FT-891. TRX-Manager is capable of connecting 4 radios and several other accessories.

These are the setting used in WSJT-X. Once you enter the settings click the Test CAT button. If it turns green the interface to TRX-Manager is working.
When connected to WSJT-X, TRX-Manager can do the logging and export files for LoTW.

TRX-Manager has built in Sound Recorder. There is control for PTT and playback.
MMVARI is an external program that is installed with TRX-Manager, for RTTY. We will explore this program more in a future post.

The Demo version will work for 30 minutes, then will not send commands to the radio. If you close the program and reopen, control will be regained. The cost to purchase the program is $75. This includes 3 years worth of updates. With it being compatible with nearly 150 transceivers and all the features, I feel this is a far price. So far I am very pleased with this program and as I explore different features of it more posts will be made.
