Since childhood, I’ve been participating in camping, hunting, fishing, and many other outdoor activities. One thing that has always surprised me is other individuals general lack of first aid knowledge and supplies. Everyone should know the basics and have easy access to a first aid kit.
First aid kits are available at most stores and online. There are many to choose from but don’t let that intimidate you. I like to use All purpose kits that come with around 90 pieces of supplies. These usually run around $20. Keep them in your home, vehicle, and with your portable radio equipment. Add any medical items that might be specific to your needs. A lighter and knife are also good things to keep in your first aid kit.

Take a basic first aid class. This is very valuable knowledge. There are many organizations that provide training. In some a cases you may be able to find them for free. If you are unable to take a class, do some research online. Organizations, like the Red Cross, have a wealth of information.
Learning first aid can mean the difference in life or death . Statistics say accidental injury is the leading cause of death for people under 44 years old. Why would you want to take a chance with your family and friends? Stay Safe!!

Hi Matthew! I like your Safety Corner posts. With the meds I take, I tend to bleed easily. So, I always have a first aid kit nearby. I have one in each of my vehicles, my camper, and even on my bicycle. I’m looking forward to reading more of your blog. — 73, Craig WB3GCK
